Why does the mushroom always get invited to pizza parties? Because he’s such a FunGuy!

October is National Pizza Month so we’ve tossed together the perfect pizza to make for your next pizza party. This homemade pizza has it all with crispy bites of bacon, sliced red onion, plenty of mozzarella, and loaded up with mushroom slices over a creamy white garlic sauce.

Let’s get in the kitchen and cheese this FunGuy pizza!

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 425F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Put half of the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt into a bowl and stir it together with a whisk. Pour the water and 1 tablespoon olive oil into the flour and stir together with a wooden spoon. Gradually add the rest  of the flour and stir until a sticky ball forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a well floured surface and knead 5-7 minutes or until a smooth, soft ball has formed. Add another 1 tablespoon of olive oil to a clean bowl and place the dough ball inside the bowl, turning it over in the oil to coat the outside. Cover the bowl with a warm damp cloth and let the dough rise for about 30 minutes.
  4. While the dough raises, cook the bacon and prepare the garlic sauce.
  5. Heat 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in a sauce pan over medium heat and cook 1 minute. Add the cubed bacon and cook, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t stick or burn, until it’s crispy.
  6. Transfer the cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to let excess oil drain.
  7. Return the pan to the burner and add the butter to let it melt. Add the garlic and oregano sprigs to the butter and let it cook 1-2 minutes. Sprinkle the flour over the butter and stir with a whisk so that the flour absorbs the butter. Cook 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour the milk into the pan, stirring constantly. Allow the sauce to cook, stirring frequently, for about 5-7 minutes or until it’s become thick and creamy. If it is too thick, add more milk a couple tablespoons at a time until it reaches the desired consistency. Taste and season with salt, stirring well.  Turn off the heat and cover until ready to use.
  8. When the dough is ready, flour your hands, and turn it out onto a floured surface. Punch the dough down and pat the dough ball into round disk. With finger tips, gently pull and push the dough from the middle outward to the edges to create a thicker crust and thinner middle. Transfer the pizza dough to the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Drizzle the last of the oil over the middle of the pizza before adding the toppings starting with the creamy sauce, followed by mozzarella cheese, sliced FunGuy mushrooms, red onion slices, crispy bacon, and topped with a little more cheese.
  10. Bake the pizza for 12-15 minutes or until the crust has risen and golden brown.  Remove from the oven and allow it to cool at least 5 minutes before serving.

Have a Fun meal!
